"In the Prielli Rally Star Africa the eventual winner was Randeep Birdi from Tanzania in his Mitsubishi Evo 7 after scoring 39 points. Second overall and also a qualifer was Mathieu Adrianjafy from a lesser-fancied rallying nation of Madagascar could be the driver to watch in Kenya in April. He has flair and agression to challenge some of the best drivers in the Pirelli series. This was inspite of retiring with an engine failure in the first stage of the Day 2, Mathieu has amassed enough points from the 5 stage wins in Leg 1. Other Pirelli contenders Alex and Peter the Horsey brothers Peter and Alex failed in their attempt to qualify for the Pirelli Young Star Drivers Championship finals in Rwanda after mechanical failures in both the new Evo9 and Evo8 machines respectively."

Mathieu qualifié au Pirelli star driver

Pour leur première participation africaine, rallye de Tanzanie qui a pris fin hier, Mathieu et Teddy ont tenu tête aux pilotes africains. Ils feront figure de proue au Pirelli Star Driver et ont brigué la troisième place au classement général de cette manche. Mission accomplie.

Une grande première enrobée de velours. Mathieu Andrianjafy et Teddy Rahamefy sur un Subaru Impreza ont réussi leur défi à l'issue du rallye de Tanzanie, première manche du championnat d'Afrique. Ils ont gagné haut la main leur billet pour le derby final de Pirelli Star Driver et ont encore réalisé un exploit inouï, celui de la troisième marche du podium. Même si Mathieu est quasiment inconnu dans le bataillon, non seulement il a surpassé le niveau africain, mais a aussi inscrit sa marque de fabrique tout au long de cette course, malgré ses divers problèmes mécaniques.

Avant même le coup d'envoi de cette manche, l'équipage malgache a du changer la boîte de vitesse de la Subaru et avant l'Es 9, première épreuve de la dernière étape, Mathieu et Teddy ont été contraints à l'abandon car leur voiture a refusé de démarrer. Ils ont perdu plus de 5 minutes. Mais les avantages acquis durant la course a permis à Mathieu de rester dans le trio de tête au classement général.

A vrai dire, Mathieu a vraiment donné du fil à retordre aux autres pilotes engagés classés parmi les favoris. Car depuis le début de la course, le Malgache a survolé le circuit en réalisant toujours le meilleur temps jusqu'à ce que la Subaru a rendu l'âme. Et le fait de constater que seules 7 voitures sur les 25 au départ ont pu franchir la ligne d'arrivée, signifie que cette première manche a été rude. Un à un, les gros bras de la course ont rejoint la ligne d'arrivée, à commencer par le prétendant au titre, le Zambien Muna Sing au volant d'une Subaru, victime d'une sortie de route lors de l'Es3. Puis, c'était au tour du Tanzanien Navraj Hans (Mitsubishi) de perdre le Nord et d'après les informations reçues, ce dernier qui a subi la pression de Mathieu, a heurté un pont.

Suite à cette bonne prestation de l'équipage malgache que le monde du rallye africain ne s'y attendait pas, le site de la Fia n'a pas manqué de vanter cet exploit, «ce pilote qui vient d'un pays peu connu en rallye africain, a du flair et est très agressif, capable de se mesurer aux meilleurs pilotes du Pirelli star driver». Mathieu et Teddy ont même gagné le coeur des Tanzaniens si bien que les commentateurs les qualifient de sympathiques "guys of Madagascar".

Tanzania's Ahmed Huwel and Ben Pelser excelled in the Super Special Stage of the Kobil Rally after clocking the fastest time in the 2km stage held on Friday at Mlimani City.

The drivers shared the first place after both spending 1:53 seconds in a tricky circuit.

The second position went to the Zimbabwean Jamie Whyte who clocked 1:54 minutes ahead of the defending champions Muna Singh and his navigator David Sihoka who clocked 1:55.

Madagascar's Mathieu Andrianjafy was the most entertaining driver according to the motor ports fans whop flocked to watch drivers in action last night.

Others were Emanuel Kato who clocked 1:56, Lola Verlaque 1:57, Rwanda's Giancarlo Davite who 1:57 and Kenyan Peter Horsey who chalked 1:58 minutes.

Others who made good shows include Anwar Pandya who clocked 1:58, Zambian Mohamed Essa who penned 1:58 and Rwanda�s Olivier Costa who clocked 1:58 and Tanzanian Randeep Birdi who chalked 2:00 minutes.

Madagascar's Mathieu Adrianjaffy came next in 2:01 ahead of Navraj Hans who finished 14th in 2:02 minutes
