Restoration of an original 1981 Renault 14 TS

Messages recommandés

My Renault 14 TS was purchased new by my Father in March 1981. I am sorry I donot speak French and have been using Google translate.
Below is a photo of the car before any restoration work was carried out around 30 months ago.

After removing the wings.

The boot floor and floorpan were in excellent condition even though the car has been in Scotland since new.

Corrosion on drivers door, this was the worst door by far.

An original wheel which had not been painted since new.

Corrosion around rear wheel arch, again totally original.

Inner wing cleaned up in preparation for welding.

Inner wings repaired

Nearside rear arch repaired.

Engine bay minus engine.

New genuine Renault wings painted.

Engine before cleaning and fitting of some new genuine Renault parts.

Freshly painted engine bay and door checks.

Engine after degreasing.

Front struts painted.

Cleaner engine fitted with new genuine Renault alternator and starter.

The car ready for painting, the bonnet was a new genuine Renault part which I managed to source.

Newly painted.

The refit begins.

The rear axle trailing arms look worse in the photo than they were.

Refurbished front grill, the plastic chrome had deteriorated badly, I used chrome decals cut to size.

Front arch treated with black stonchip.

Same in rear arch.

Wheel after much preparation work.

Tidy up of the calipers.

Front wing decals made by AJ Decals in England from an original which I had.

Andy Johnstone can be found here.

Trailing arm axle etc painted.

Rear badge before.

And after.

New and genuine Renault rear mud flaps sourced from ebay France.

Original Renault Elf sticker still in rear window.

Refitting the original interior with no remedial work required.

Original headlining untouched since new.

New original Renault mud flaps waiting to be fitted.

New and genuine heater fan switch.

Dash showing total number miles from new.

Optional extra radio fitted before delivery.

I still have the radio blanking plate.

Some paperwork for the car.

Brand new genuine Renault exhaust.

British advert from 1981 for a Renault 14 TS.

Refitting the interior

Very very VERY Beautiful !!!!

The 14 was rare in UK?

The 14 was not rare in the UK in the 70's or 80's, but sadly now there must only be around 5 left. They were very prone to corrosion in the UK, particularly in Scotland due to the climate.

It's AMAZING !! Shocked
sco 14 you make a really good restauration on your's father R14.

It's so good to see a R14 outside France in a so good condition.
Many thanks "sco 14" and "sergio" for your interest in this car !!

Because you must know in France, there's not so much peoples who lile it.
Because she's got a bad publication of her in France in 1977, the publicitation
say "the Renault 14 is like a peare", for her shave, but the peoples thing at used,
if they boat one they 'll be a Pear (as well).
So like that, some of R14 as got a big problème with the rust, some has got some problems
with there engen xho like to drike a little bit to mush oil, some's got problems to start her engine the morning, some of them take water inside when it was rainning...
And at list the Renault's garages doesn't like her engine, because it wasn't a Renault Engine,
like the others ones of the Renault philosophie.
Renault make an accord with Peugeot at the end of the 60ies for built this motor, that Peugeot put inside her 104 en 1972, but Peugeot brake her accords with Renault in 1974 and go to see Citroen.
So Renault has got this engine on her arms, and must put it in side a car, and so it was the R14.
And the R14 was in a cathegory of cars (the 7cv) wher there is lot of.
And at end, the body of the R14 was in 1976 (for the first ones) may be to new for a car.

Hello Sco14,

Very good job! Congratulations !!

My Renault 14TS is from the same year, I had also a lot of work to deal with rost.

You are very lucky with this brand new front grill you found on Ebay, I would like to find one too.

On the tachometer is 58708 for miles or kilometers?

Good evening
